Cause/Effect Essay

Draft Due: April 2

Final Due: April 11

Cause:

a. To bring about, or be the reason for, an action

Effect:

b. something that is produced or brought about by a cause; a result; a consequence

Assignment Description

This is not just a cause/effect essay. For almost everyone, this should be a background essay on the topic for your final paper. While historical events are going to be the most focused way to find and discuss a topic for this essay, other social problems would equally work, but it must attempt to be relevant to your final topic. The effects of anything could be challenged and seen as correlative rather than causative, or vice versa. For example, if you would like to discuss the cause of child obesity, you can research whatever you may think the causes would be and then use that research to support if those things are causal or simply correlated. You will need to make sure that you have an argument which makes sense. You are expected to have a minimum of three (3) outside sources for your paper to show you have researched your general topic.

Draft requirements:

An essay is required on Wednesday the 2nd for a draft. Outlines are NOT acceptable. The draft need not be the full length required of the final, but must be at least 75% of what you hope to turn in for your final draft.

· Be a minimum of four double-spaced pages written in point 12 Times New Roman font.

· Include a main topic, complete with thesis which states what you are discussing, and supporting details that you are bringing up in the essay.
