PHHE 487: Public Health Pre-Practicum Seminar
Career Portfolio
Total Points: 15
The Career Portfolio that you develop in class will be one that you will hopefully use during
your interview process and continue to develop throughout your career. How you design it
should reflect you as a person and should a showcase your talent and hard work. There are
certain standards that apply and that should be used to make it easier for people to look
through and understand its contents.
Portfolios turned options:
• Extra credit due date: in class Wednesday, April 1 by 9:35 a.m. (must be complete
and meet all assignment requirements)
• Regular due date: in class on Wednesday, April 15 by 9:35 a.m.
Credit will be reduced to half if turned in later on Wednesday, April 15 and an
additional point for each day beyond that date.
GRADING CRITERIA:
You will be graded on the following guidelines.
● Have a title page with your name and contact information on it.0.5
● Have an table of contents for your portfolio.0.5
● Corrected and clean required documents: cover letter2, resume3 and reference
page1.
● Include at least five (5) quality college communication examples3 of your
academic work. Include only clean corrected copies. All examples should be singlespaced. EACH example must be preceded by a brief paragraph2.5 (5-6
sentences) of why this specific example was chosen and what skill/characteristic it
demonstrates.
o You are encouraged to submit a mix of work to showcase your skills, but you
cannot submit just PowerPoints (limit 2), group assignments (limit 2).
o Also, be selective about what how much you submit for each example – no
more than 4 pages per example.
● Include copies of any certificates, awards and diplomas that you have received. No
originals please. These are considered additional portfolio pieces.
● Portfolio Order: Title Page, Outline Page, Cover Letter, Resume, Reference Page,
Communication Examples (each with a personal write-up before the example), and
any other sections.
● All your work should be placed in sheet protectors to protect all your pages..5 Two
sheets of paper per sheet protector (or one double-sided printed page)..5
● Use a cover page for each section: cover letter, resume, reference page, work
examples, certificates, and awards. (This does not mean to use a folder separator
and just drop in the assignment.).5
● General organization (i.e. “look”) is extremely important and can greatly effect your
grade.1
It is strongly recommended that you meet with the course TA (Suzi) to have your
portfolio reviewed before turning in for a grade.
