Feedback 1 leadership skills

Behavior is a great determinant of one’s leadership as it informs one’s ability to lead and be accepted as a leader. The results of the Conceptualizing Leadership Questionnaire depict my perception and the perceptions of those who know me with regard to my behavior and traits as a leader. The results indicate that I am doing well as a leader as I attain an average score of above 3 in all indicators. Based on the guiding criteria of the questionnaire, average scores of 3 and below in a specific indicator avers that the leader is not well established in such area and should direct more attention towards improving the traits in question (Northouse, 2022, p. 47). Since my average score in all areas is above this mark, then this is an indicator that I perceive myself and other people equally perceive me a good leader depicting good traits.

I have recorded the highest score under traits such as diligence, trustworthy, friendly, self-confident, self-assured and articulate. These are some of the key traits a good leaders and an effective practice of these traits may lead to effective leadership and success (Piccolo & Buengeler, 2013). With such scores, it is clear that those who know me appreciate by behavior as a leader and they are confident that I am determined and diligent hence capable to undertake leadership roles.

My lowest scores being a score far were recorded on traits such as perceptive, dependable, conscientious and emphatic. This shows that while I am still doing well in exercising these traits, those surrounding me feel the need for me to put more effort towards improving my behavior and a leader and exercising these traits in an even better manner hence become a good leader. I believe in good communication and becoming reliable as a leader, I intend to undertake more measures to promote the growth of these attributes in my undertaking of activities even as I develop my leadership skills.

Relationship and skill were my two highest scoring traits of leadership both coming in at a score of 16 each. For me a leaders must develop healthy relationships with their followers as part of their leadership process. In doing so, you can relate with them and find out what makes them tick and can provide an effective environment that helps them to accomplish the groups goals land objectives. At my previous employer we had three CEO changes and all three struggled with relating to its employees. Because of this lack of relationships, employees began to leave the company for its competitors.

Second to relationships is the trait of skill. In my opinion, skillful leaders can adapt and learn how to become more effective leaders by listening and serving their followers. Coming back to my previous employer, the new CEO was promoted form the CFO position and he was more about the numbers than about the people. However, the CEO before him was more of a coercive leader as he was tasked to bring the company out of bankruptcy. According to the textbook, “while coercion has been a common power brought to bear by many individuals in charge, it should not be viewed as ideal leadership,” (Northouse, 2022, p. 24) and I completely agree with this assessment. My current CEO and direct boss is completely different and using his relationships and skill in the industry to guide and lead his people to be the best they can so they can accomplish company goals and objectives.
