NURS 6002:
Transition to Graduate Study for Nursing

Academic and Professional Success Plan Template

Prepared by:

This document is to be used for

NURS 6002 Transition to Graduate Study for Nursing
to complete Assessments 1-4. Just as importantly the document serves to organize your thoughts about planning for your academic and professional success.

For specific instructions see the weekly assessment details in the course or ask your instructor for further guidance.

Week 1 | Part 1: Developing an Academic and Professional Network

I have identified and secured the participation of the following academic (at least two) and professional (at least two) individuals and/or teams to form the basis of my network. This network will help me to clarify my vision for success and will help guide me now and in the future.

Directions: Complete the information below for each member of your network. For more than four entries repeat the items below with details of your additional network member(s) in the ‘ADDITIONAL NETWORK MEMBERS’ section.

NETWORK MEMBER 1

Name: Dr. Nelson H. Aaron

Title: MD, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital

Organization: St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital

Academic or Professional: Professional

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

Notes: It would be essential to learn from others while continuing with the MSN program. Learning from the professionals in the medical field would be necessary since they would inform me about some of the critical changes taking place in the healthcare sector. The selected professional would offer insight into using nursing knowledge and skills acquired to meet the population’s needs. Due to the broader experience of Dr Aaron in health practice and as an employee at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, he will guide in critical research areas and inform about some of the emerging issues. He would teach me how to prepare to face those challenges caused by the increased professional demands.

NETWORK MEMBER 2

Name: Victor Valze (MSN colleague)

Title: RN/MSN/NP student

Organization: Walden university

Academic or Professional: Academic

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

Notes: the successful outcome in nursing education and practice requires collaboration with colleagues in the program. Most of the course activities are identical, and nursing students explore problems from various aspects. Therefore, the MSN peers would be necessary to address some of the program’s challenges. The colleague would be an essential support system in the program and valuable as a future network. As a future network, it will make it easier to acquire employment, comprehend the practice needs, and address some of the daily changes within nursing practice. Teamwork would be a source of knowledge and skills in future nursing practice.

NETWORK MEMBER 3

Name: Dr. Andrea Lindell

Title: RN, ANEF, Member of American Nursing Association (ANA).

Organization: American Nursing Association

Academic or Professional: Professional

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

Notes: The nursing organization membership offers an opportunity to access adequate information about the changes in the healthcare sector and the demands of the nursing profession. It is always vital to liaise with individuals registered with a professional organization like ANA. Being part of the association helps inform how the healthcare industry operates and the requirements for joining the organization. It will also help in successful compliance with the requirements regarding the practice and regulations that control or guide nursing practice.

NETWORK MEMBER 4

Name: Dr Karen Ouzts

Title: Program Director

Organization: Walden University

Academic or Professional: Academic

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

Notes: Dr. Ouzts has been teaching at Walden University for the past 12 years and has played a primary role as a director of the BSN program. Before this position, she was involved in developing, launching, and managing the online RN-BSN program at the University of Wyoming. She has served in other positions as director of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Western Wyoming, assistant professor of nursing, and public health nursing supervisor at Wyoming State. Therefore, based on this professional and academic background, Ouzts is selected since she can help guide in areas of academic matters. She can be consulted in various areas of the educational program due to her in-depth experience in cases of education and practice.
