Language Acquisition

Piper (2012) mentions that cognitive and language developments are intertwined, and over the years, many theoretical models have been developed to describe this process in children learning one language or multiple languages. Further, children are born with the innate capability to learn language which is shaped by environmental influences. Use this knowledge to help form your discussion board posting.

  Chapter 3: Learning Language: How Children Do It

• Discuss how language acquisition in children 0 to 3 years of age is impacted by environmental influences.
• Describe three activities that early childhood professionals can use to foster positive language experiences for diverse children in their environment. Refer back to Chapter 3 for additional support. Be as specific as possible in identifying which components of language development will benefit from these activities.
