Part A

I have some ideas that can help Tom make friends in class and feel more comfortable participating in group activities. Tom could benefit from having a classmate act as a mentor to help him transition back into the classroom and make up any lost material. Icebreakers and team-building exercises are another option for facilitating Tom’s integration into his new classroom community and gaining insight into his classmates’ individual interests.

Part B

The ability to keep one’s feelings under check in trying circumstances is what we mean when we talk about emotional objectivity. This indicates that a person is able to detach themselves emotionally from the circumstance at hand and make decisions based on reason and logic rather than their feelings.

Emotional objectivity is a trait that I think all teachers, no matter what grade level they’re instructing, should have. Teachers who can keep their emotions in check are better able to deal with challenging situations and make sound judgment calls on behalf of their students. An emotionally detached educator, for instance, could handle a troublesome kid without losing their cool (Marzano, Marzano & Pickering, 2003).

I think it’s crucial for educators working with young children to maintain emotional distance from their students. Teachers should provide a positive example by remaining emotionally detached and providing students with guidance as they learn to control their emotions. Example: a teacher who is able to keep their cool and let a distressed student work through his or her feelings would be an emotionally objective educator.

Part C

Here is a sample student interest survey that can be utilized with first graders. Here’s an instance of this in action:

Student Interest Survey

Name: _________________________

1. What is your favorite color?

2. What is your favorite animal?

3. What is your favorite book?

4. What is your favorite game to play?

5. What is your favorite thing to do outside?

6. What is your favorite type of music?

7. What is your favorite food?

8. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind?

9. What is something you are really good at?

10. Who is someone you admire and why?

11. What is something you want to learn more about?

12. How do you feel when you come to school?

13. Is there anything you would like to tell me about yourself or your family?

The teacher can use the responses to this survey to get to know their first-grade class better, identify each student’s strengths, areas of growth, and specific needs. In particular, the open-ended questions can let students to share their thoughts in their own words while also allowing the instructor to modify the course material based on the class’s individual needs and goals.

Part D

The purpose of the Classroom Organization and Management Program (COMP) is to enhance teacher effectiveness, student learning, and classroom climate. It was developed by Carolyn Evertson and her colleagues, and it is based on studies in education and psychology (Marzano, Marzano & Pickering, 2003).

Organization, education, discipline, student participation, and family involvement are the five pillars of the COMP curriculum. Teachers are strongly urged to adopt practices that attend to each of the following aspects of classroom management.
