This assignment has three parts. You will complete three exercises
related to factorial ANOVA, ANCOVA, and MANOVA.
For this week’s assignment, you will download the dataset
divorce-studentversion.sav from this week’s resources. Review both the
Data View and the Variable View to obtain a general understanding of
the data.
Part 1: Factorial ANOVA
In this study, you are interested in studying life satisfaction as the
dependent variable. In a factorial ANOVA, you will ask questions related
to differences among fixed groups. In this dataset, the variables (factors)
of interest are life satisfaction, current family income, and sex. Based on
experience and knowledge of the literature, you want to measure the
effects of sex and different income levels on life satisfaction. In all of the
analyses conducted in this assignment, be sure to select the option
providing a measure of effect size (Eta) and the homogeneity test
(Levene’s test).
1. What are the assumptions of the factorial ANOVA? 2. What is the effect size measure in ANOVA’s? 3. Using general linear model/univariate, conduct the analysis used
to assess the differences between sex and income levels on life satisfaction.
4. Then, conduct the Tukey HSD post hoc comparison test. a. As you can see from the post hoc window, there is a large
array of post hoc tests available; as you read the literature in your specialization, see if there is a preferred post hoc test.
b. If in your research you need to conduct a post hoc test, the selected test might be influenced by the literature in your area. Tukey is used here to make it consistent among the students.
5. What are the null and alternative hypotheses? Remember to include the hypothesis related to the interaction effect.
6. Present a table that shows the results of a two-way ANOVA based on both current family income and sex, including Eta.
7. Provide the results of the analysis in APA style (don’t discuss the results here, only write them using the APA guidelines).
8. Discuss the results, in your discussion please discuss the Levene’s test assumption and if the assumption was met or violated. In addition, include a discussion of the effect size measure.
9. Make a conclusion related to the hypothesis. 10. Discuss the information the researcher gained after conducting
Tukey post hoc test.
Part 2: ANCOVA
This assignment will focus once again on life satisfaction and current
family income. Based on a recent review of the literature, you now have
reason to believe the number of children is a possible confounding
variable in the relationship between life satisfaction and current family
income. Since the number of children is part of this dataset, you can use
the number of children (childneg) as a covariant in an ANCOVA and
mediate its impact as a possible confounding variable. In all of the
analyses conducted in this assignment, be sure to select the option providing a measure of effect size (Eta) and the homogeneity test (Levene’s test).1. Using the general linear model/univariate, conduct an ANCOVA to analyze the influence of current family income on life satisfaction with number of children as a co-variant.
2. Present one table showing the results of the ANCOVA based on current family income on life satisfaction with number of children (childneg) as a co-variant, including Eta.
3. Provide the results of the analysis in APA style (don’t discuss the results here, only write them using the APA guidelines).
4. Discuss the results, in your discussion please discuss the Levene’s test assumption and if the assumption was met or violated. In addition, include a discussion of the effect size measure.
5. Include an appendix that contains all SPSS output (copied and pasted) for the items above.
Part 3: MANOVA
Based on a recent review of the literature, you now have reason to
believe family income also influences positive attitude, in addition to life
satisfaction. Therefore, you will need to conduct a multivariate analysis
of variance (MANOVA) to determine if income influences these two
variables.
You are interested in learning how current family income influences
maintaining a positive attitude and life satisfaction.
1. Discuss the homogeneity of covariances matrices. 2. Using general linear model/multivariate, conduct a MANOVA to
analyze the influence of current family income on maintaining a positive attitude and life satisfaction.
3. Present one table showing the results of the MANOVA based on current family income on life satisfaction and maintaining positive attitudes (amain2), including Eta.
4. Provide the results of the analysis in APA style (don’t discuss the results here, only write them using the APA guidelines).
5. Discuss the results, in your discussion please discuss the Box test for equality of variance matrices and if the assumption was met or violated. In addition, include a discussion of the effect size measure.
6. Include an appendix that contains all SPSS output (copied and pasted) for the items above.
Length: Complete responses to all question in all three parts of the
assignment: factorial ANOVA, ANCOVA, and MANOVA. Please include
the question prompts along with your responses in your assignment
submission. In addition to a WORD ( ) file with the answers to the
assignment questions, also include the output (.spv) file. (NOTE: SPSS
automatically generates the .spv file as you work in SPSS. When you
close your SPSS main window, SPSS will ask you if you want to save
the output file. Click ‘yes’, then save to your computer and upload with
your assignment.)
Place an order in 3 easy steps. Takes less than 5 mins.
